Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers is studying forecast electricity and gas balances under different scenarios for getting through winter. Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi announced this on Monday, August 10.
Koretskyi said that at a meeting of the Energy Staff he heard reports from First Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, along with the heads of Naftogaz, Ukrenergo, Energoatom, Ukrhydroenergo, Centrenergo, DTEK and the Gas Transmission System Operator.
Koretskyi said the meeting examined in detail the progress of repair work at generation facilities and the installation of additional protection.
Faster preparations amid Russian attacks
The meeting also identified areas where preparation work for winter needs to be accelerated, given intensifying Russian attacks. The Ministry of Energy will oversee the implementation of Koretskyi's instructions.
Resilience plans and infrastructure lists
On March 3, the National Security and Defense Council approved resilience plans for all regions except Kyiv, which was later added to the plans following a vote in the Kyiv City Council. Former Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko has said the total cost of these plans is about 278 billion hryvnias.
On August 8, Denys Shmyhal said Ukraine would create two lists of critical infrastructure for different seasons of the year, to allow more efficient distribution of electricity.
