The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has codified the new Air Baby 350 interceptor drone produced by domestic manufacturer Strix Air, clearing the system for deployment across armed forces combat units.

Frontline units are already using the unmanned aerial vehicle in combat operations, with official plans to incorporate the system into the DOT-Chain digital procurement framework and the eBaly military incentives program.

The primary feature of the upgraded modification is its velocity, reaching flight speeds of up to 350 km/h. Designed specifically to intercept and neutralize airborne targets, the aircraft can operate at distances of up to 35 kilometres from its pilot and reach altitudes of up to 6 kilometres. It maintains a flight endurance of up to 15 minutes while carrying a 500-gram warhead.

Codification by the Ministry of Defence is the official certification process in Ukraine that authorizes military equipment for formal adoption into service. This status allows defense officials to procure the hardware using state funds and distribute it directly to military units. Fast interceptor drones have become an essential element of modern air defence, enabling forces to target incoming enemy reconnaissance UAVs and attack drones at a fraction of the cost of conventional anti-aircraft missiles.

Pricing and hardware options

Base pricing for the Air Baby 350 starts from 43,200 Ukrainian hryvnias, with the final unit cost depending on the specific camera model selected for installation. According to Strix Air, specialized equipment packages include the Sine.Link module for communication and targeting operations in complex environments.

Communication stability remains a major challenge in modern drone warfare, where dense electronic warfare jamming frequently disrupts radio links between operators and aircraft. Advanced transmission systems like the Sine.Link module are built to maintain reliable control signals and telemetry under severe radio-frequency interference, helping pilots locate and track airborne targets.

Strix Air reported that the new interceptor offers improved manoeuvrability and enhanced flight stability when compared to the manufacturer's earlier generation aircraft.

Combat record and future developments

Development of the Air Baby line is continuing, with Strix Air already working on an advanced variant intended to reach flight speeds of up to 450 km/h. Data from Strix Air indicates that Ukrainian soldiers destroyed more than 1,000 aerial targets using Air Baby interceptors during the first seven months of 2026.

Planned inclusion in DOT-Chain will connect the drone to the supply platform operated by the State Operator for Rear, Ukraine's defense procurement entity tasked with managing military logistics and technical supply lines. Integration with the eBaly program will further allow military units to receive specialized equipment allocations based on verified combat performance.

The approval of the Air Baby 350 reflects a wider push across Ukraine's defense industry to develop high-speed countermeasures against airborne threats. Ukrainian military forces are currently testing another interceptor drone, known as the Spys, which can reach speeds of up to 600 km/h. In a parallel manufacturing development, a Ukrainian drone producer is set to begin using 3D printing technology to manufacture structural parts for unmanned aerial vehicles and robotic ground systems.
