Two police officers were rushed to hospital after their unmarked car collided with a heavy goods vehicle on the A64 in North Yorkshire.
The officers were driving an unmarked Peugeot 308 between York and Malton when the crash happened at 12.14pm on August 7. They were responding to an "operational matter" at the time.
The driver of the HGV was not injured, but the two officers suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital.
A portion of the road near Barton Hill was closed while the air ambulance responded to the crash and recovery work was carried out.
Wreckage shows extent of damage
Footage of the car shared online after the crash showed the wreckage on the grass at the side of the main road. The Peugeot's bumper was hanging off, its windscreen was smashed and the left side passenger door had been ripped off. Debris from the collision was also visible in foliage further from the road.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "We are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a collision involving an unmarked police vehicle and a HGV on the A64 at Barton Hill."
The spokesperson added: "Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has relevant dashcam footage from the area at the time, is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote reference 12260152304."
Previous unmarked car collision
This is not the only unmarked police vehicle involved in a collision in recent years. In April, two Metropolitan Police officers were charged after a pregnant woman and her baby were killed in a collision with an unmarked car. Mariam Ahmed, 38, died after the police Volvo ploughed into her car in Eltham, southeast London, on October 17, 2024.
