Police find belongings of the boyfriend of the deceased Gabby Petito near her home in Florida

The young influencer would have died of strangulation according to the autopsy. Her boyfriend is one of the main suspects after her disappearance.

Police and relatives of Brian Laundrie, missing for weeks after the death of his girlfriend, the influencer Gabby Petito, found some of the boy’s belongings near his Florida home, the family’s lawyer and the FBI said Wednesday.

Laundrie and Petito left New York in July to tour the western United States in a pickup truck for four months. But on September 1, the boy returned alone to his North Port home, where the couple lived with the Laundrie family.

Petito’s disappearance attracted enormous media attention in the country, fueled by the discovery of his body in Wyoming, on September 19, and the announcement that she died by strangulation.

Shortly after his return to Florida, Laundrie, 23, disappeared after refusing to answer police questions, calling him a “person of interest” in the Petito investigation.

Laundrie’s parents and police met Wednesday morning to try to locate the young man in a marshy reserve where he is believed to have fled, the family’s attorney, Steven Bertolino, explained in a statement.

After a “brief search” near a trail that Brian Laundrie used to frequent, officers and relatives found “some belongings” of his, the lawyer said.

Police are inspecting the rest of the area, according to the same source.

The FBI office in Tampa, North Florida, confirmed on Twitter the discovery of “articles of interest” related to the search for Laundrie.

Autopsy reveals cause of death of Gabby Petito, her boyfriend is still missing

Petito’s case began to cause a stir on the internet when her family reported her disappearance on September 11, claiming they had not seen her since the end of August.

A video posted by police in Moab, a small Utah town, raised suspicions around Laundrie.

In the images, Petito, 22, appears crying in a car, after the police intervened on August 12 over a domestic dispute.

The story of this young American blonde is sadly common in a country where hundreds of thousands of people go missing every year.

But the media attention given to the case has sparked controversy over the disproportionate attention paid to the disappearances of white women compared to those of minority origin. (I)
