Tennis player Potapova said she caught the virus at the WTA tournament in Dubai
Russian tennis player Anastasia Potapova spoke on her Telegram channel about the virus outbreak at the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai.
“Many girls caught the virus, and I was no exception, I had to play with the symptoms of the disease,” the athlete shared. She noted that she now wants to give her body a rest in order to have time to recover and prepare for the competition in Indian Wells.
On February 22, Kazakh tennis player Elena Rybakina withdrew from the tournament in Dubai due to a gastrointestinal disease. Potapova finished her performance in the third round, losing to Chinese Zhen Qingwen with a score of 3:6, 2:6.
The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) did not impose bans on the participation of Russians and Belarusians in tournaments under their auspices. Athletes continue to compete in a neutral status.
