The Russian national football team wanted to play a friendly match with Saudi Arabia
The Russian Football Union (RFU) is negotiating the organization of a friendly match with the national team of Saudi Arabia. It is reported by “Championship.com” with reference to a source familiar with the situation.
The meeting could take place in the fall. Earlier, RFU President Alexander Dyukov said he wanted to organize a home match for the Russian national team.
The Russian national team last played with Saudi Arabia at the group stage of the home World Cup in June 2018. The meeting ended with the victory of the Russians with a score of 5:0.
On February 28, the International Football Federation (FIFA) excluded Russian teams from international tournaments. Thus, the national team lost the chance to participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. After that, the RFU filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but the preliminary hearings ended in favor of FIFA.
