The ROC reacted to the IOC statement about the possible admission of Russians to the competition

The ROC promised to evaluate the IOC statement on the possible admission of Russians to the competition

The President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Stanislav Pozdnyakov, reacted to the statement of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which suggested considering the possibility of admitting Russians who did not support the holding of the ROC in Ukraine to the competition. The functionary spoke in his Telegram.

“I perceive it as an attempt to take a step towards the athletes. But at the same time, unfortunately, it is also two steps in the opposite direction!” Pozdnyakov wrote. He added that Russia opposes any additional restrictions and discrimination of athletes based on nationality.

Pozdnyakov also promised to conduct a legal assessment of the IOC’s statement. “Based on legal expertise, we will build further cooperation with international sports organizations,” he added.

The IOC statement was published earlier on 25 January. It was clarified that only Russians and Belarusians who did not support the CBO in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will be able to get permission to play at international tournaments.
