A fire broke out on the Zahorie military training ground near the town of Senica in western Slovakia, Slovak news portal Pravda reported.
The incident occurred after the conclusion of the Sahara Slovakia 2026 military history event. Around 100 firefighters are battling the blaze with more than 20 special equipment units, including helicopters.

Emergency response and investigation
Slovakia's Ministry of Defence sent soldiers and additional Black Hawk helicopters to assist emergency personnel. Rescuers stated that their primary goal is to prevent the fire from spreading further.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and will be determined by a special expert commission. Slovak media reported that the fire may have been caused by spontaneous vegetation combustion following weeks of abnormal heat and virtually no rainfall.
