Former SYRIZA lawmaker Simeon Kedikoglou has officially registered as a member of the Greek Left Coalition, confirming his political alignment with the new political initiative led by Alexis Tsipras.

Kedikoglou announced his registration in a video lasting approximately 40 seconds posted to social media, featuring symbolic references to Christopher Nolan's Odyssey and Ithaca.

Accompanying the video post, Kedikoglou wrote that the clip explained everything without many words and with a dose of humor, encouraging followers to take a look.

Resignation from Parliament

The announcement follows Kedikoglou's decision roughly one month earlier to resign from his parliamentary seat, making his formal entry into the new party an expected development.

At the time of his resignation, Kedikoglou met with Nikitas Kaklamanis, the president of the Hellenic Parliament, to officially submit his departure while formally declaring his intention to align with the Greek Left Coalition, which uses the Greek acronym ELAS.

In a statement made during his parliamentary resignation, Kedikoglou said he could not be absent from the new ELAS initiative, adding that he was joining to contribute his efforts toward a progressive patriotic direction as hope was reborn.

He also issued a call for public participation in the political movement, stating that in response to the needs of the times and public encouragement, he was inviting supporters to fight together toward the Ithaca of their expectations.

Political Context

The Greek Left Coalition is a political movement launched by Alexis Tsipras, who previously served as Prime Minister of Greece from 2015 to 2019 and led the left-wing SYRIZA party until 2023.

Nikitas Kaklamanis, a veteran politician serving as Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, received Kedikoglou's formal resignation last month during the procedural handover of his parliamentary seat.
