The Ministry of Emergency Situations in Sevastopol has published footage showing crews extinguishing a forest fire caused by an August 10 Ukrainian drone attack. The photos and video released on Telegram document firefighting operations in difficult mountain and forest terrain near the Inzhir tract.
Emergency responders, the Forestry Enterprise, the Sevastopol Rescue Service, the Black Sea Fleet, and volunteers fought the fire together. Dmitry Chernozhukov, deputy head of the firefighting and rescue operations service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for Sevastopol, said crews faced steep slopes while battling the flames.
Chernozhukov said extinguishing was carried out primarily using knapsack fire extinguishers and improvised tools. In some areas, responders gathered seawater directly from the coast and passed containers up the slope. Open burning has been eliminated, and crews are currently dousing the grounds with water.
Campsite Evacuation and New Outbreak
Earlier reports noted that emergency services evacuated 133 people from a campsite after the fire began. The blaze involved two separate hotspots and spread across eight hectares.
On the evening of August 11, another attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine ignited a forest fire on Ilyas-Kaya in the Sevastopol zone of the Southern Coast of Crimea. That fire burned an area of 500 square meters.
