Lima water utility Sedapal has announced scheduled water outages across parts of Chorrillos, Lurigancho and Comas for preventive maintenance on August 24.

Sedapal schedules water cuts across three Lima districts

Peruvian state water company Sedapal has announced scheduled drinking water service disruptions across several sectors of Metropolitan Lima on Monday, August 24.

The temporary water cuts are required for preventive maintenance work on the municipal supply network. Service will be suspended at varying times throughout the day depending on the specific location included in the utility's maintenance schedule.

Sedapal reported that the maintenance shutdowns will not affect entire districts. Instead, the disruptions will target specific sectors, including housing associations, urbanisations and human settlements.

Residents living in the scheduled areas have been advised to plan ahead and store sufficient water in clean, covered containers to meet their household needs during the service stoppage.

Los vecinos de las urbanizaciones y asociaciones afectadas deben almacenar agua con anticipación para el periodo sin servicio.

Affected sectors in Chorrillos and Lurigancho

In the southern coastal district of Chorrillos, water service will be cut from 5:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. The affected areas include the human settlements of General Miguel Iglesias, Intillacta and Marcavilca.

Chorrillos is located along Lima's southern coastline, where human settlements (asentamientos humanos) often occupy elevated terrain requiring specialized pumping infrastructure.

In eastern Lima, the district of Lurigancho will experience two distinct maintenance windows. The main outage will take place between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

The areas included in Lurigancho's 12 hour maintenance window are urbanización La Capitana, housing association La Capitana, the neighborhood board of Avenida La Paz Cementerio Mapfre, housing association Nueva Esperanza, housing association San Cristóbal de Huachipa, housing association Las Caobas and housing association Las Palmeras.

A secondary schedule for Lurigancho will suspend service from 1:00 p.m. until 11:50 p.m. This outage will impact additional sectors outlined in Sedapal's official timetable.

Lurigancho, frequently called Lurigancho-Chosica, extends along the Rímac River valley in eastern Lima, serving as a critical gateway between the capital and the central Andean region.

Perimeter shutdown in Comas

In northern Lima, the district of Comas will undergo a scheduled service disruption lasting eight hours, from 12:00 p.m. noon until 8:00 p.m.

The outage in Comas is concentrated in the human settlement Santísima Cruz de Mayo. The affected area lies within the perimeter formed by Avenida Belén, Avenida Santa Rosa, Jirón El Chasqui, Jirón Cañete, Avenida 28 de Julio, Jirón Libertad, Avenida San Antonio de Padua, Jirón San Martín de Porres, Jirón 29 de Diciembre and Pasaje 1ro de Mayo.

Comas is one of the most populated districts in northern Lima (Lima Norte). In Peruvian street naming conventions, a jirón refers to a street passing through multiple urban blocks, while a pasaje indicates a narrow street or pedestrian walkway.

Background on Lima water utility

Sedapal, formally known as Servicio de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado de Lima, is Peru's state-owned water utility. It provides drinking water and sanitation services to more than 10 million residents across Metropolitan Lima and the neighboring constitutional province of Callao.

Because Lima is built in a desert environment fed primarily by seasonal Andean rivers, Sedapal routinely conducts scheduled maintenance shutdowns to inspect pipes, repair valves, and preserve service reliability across its network.
