The Samsung Galaxy A26 5G has been named the best budget smartphone from the South Korean manufacturer available in 2026. Technology news website BGR reported that the handset remains a top choice for buyers looking for an Android device priced under $300.
The device originally launched in March 2025 and continues to offer one of the strongest combinations of price and capabilities in the entry-level smartphone market. It takes over the position previously held by the Galaxy A25 as the primary low-cost option recommended by product testing organization Consumer Reports.
Consumer Reports had highlighted the Galaxy A25 for its long battery life and solid camera performance relative to its affordable price tag. As the older Galaxy A25 model gradually disappears from retail channels, the Galaxy A26 5G maintains those core hardware traits while adding updated features. Consumer Reports is an independent non-profit consumer testing group based in the United States that evaluates electronic products and appliances.
Reviewers commended the inclusion of a 120Hz display on the Galaxy A26 5G, alongside a suite of artificial intelligence tools rarely found in budget devices. The phone supports Circle to Search, which allows users to circle items on screen to initiate a web search, as well as an Object Eraser and image manipulation filters operated directly on the display.
Hardware design and physical durability
Despite its feature set, the build quality of the device casing reflects its entry-level positioning. Reviewers noted that the exterior housing betrays its budget status, suggesting that buyers purchase a durable protective case alongside the phone to prevent damage from drops.

Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy A26 5G will receive six major Android operating system updates and six years of security patches. Counting from its global launch in March 2025, the extended software support schedule ensures that the device will remain officially updated until approximately March 2031.
Longer software support aligns with changing consumer habits as users retain their smartphones for longer periods before upgrading. Data from electronics recycling specialists indicates that the physical structure and battery health of Samsung Galaxy A series phones typically remain functional for four to six years under normal usage conditions.
Pricing and changing retail packaging
In Ukraine, the base Galaxy A26 5G model with 6GB of random-access memory and 128GB of internal storage costs between 11,000 and 12,000 UAH. The higher-capacity variant featuring 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage sells for up to 16,000 UAH.
Buyers should note changes to the contents of the product packaging. Samsung has begun removing the wall charging cable from its budget Galaxy A lineup. Retail boxes now include only the smartphone itself, standard documentation, and a metal SIM card ejection tool.
Future market pressures on budget smartphones
The continued availability of low-cost smartphones comes amid industry shifts that could impact future pricing. Budget smartphones priced under $200 may become scarce or disappear from store shelves as early as next year due to supply constraints.
A rapid rise in global demand for dynamic random-access memory, or DRAM, driven by artificial intelligence infrastructure development, has reduced the supply of memory components available to mobile device manufacturers. DRAM is an essential type of semiconductor memory used in consumer electronics, and shifting production toward server-grade AI chips has tightened component supplies across the mobile phone industry.
