Russians ate a record amount of meat in 2025, with average consumption per person surpassing 100 kilograms for the first time, according to state statistics cited by RIA Novosti.
Meat and meat product consumption reached 100.7 kilograms per person for the year, a new historical high. The figure stood at 99.9 kilograms the year before.
Poultry Leads the Rise
Russians ate more poultry in particular, with consumption rising to 26.4 kilograms in 2025 from 25.3 kilograms in 2024. Beef and veal consumption stayed almost unchanged, at 9.3 kilograms compared with 9.4 kilograms the previous year.
Demand for pork fell slightly, to 17.1 kilograms per person from 17.4 kilograms in the same period of 2024. Consumption of sausages and frankfurters also saw a small decline.
Beef Exports to China
Russia previously increased the value of its frozen beef shipments to China by a factor of 1.4. China paid 68.7 million dollars for the product in the first half of 2026. Brazil supplied China with even more meat, worth 5.1 billion dollars over the same period, with Australia and Argentina also making significant shipments.
