Rumer Willis has won a key legal victory in her custody dispute with former partner Derek Richard Thomas after a California judge ordered his visits with their three year old daughter Louetta to remain supervised.
A judge at the Los Angeles County Superior Court ruled that visitation time between Thomas and three year old Louetta will continue under supervision for the time being.
The court will address whether Thomas can have unsupervised overnight stays with his daughter during a scheduled hearing on September 10.
The judge instructed both parents to work together to select a mutually trusted supervisor for the visits. If Willis and Thomas cannot reach an agreement on a supervisor, a professional monitor will be appointed to oversee the visitation sessions.
Court petition and custody allegations
The judge also clarified that other matters raised by Willis will not be decided during the September 10 hearing. Willis must submit separate legal petitions if she wishes the court to address those additional issues.
Willis filed an emergency court application asking for continued supervision, accusing Thomas of repeatedly breaking existing custody agreements. She claimed that Thomas demonstrated dangerous judgment while caring for their child.
In court documents, Willis stated that Thomas had ongoing conflicts with nannies assigned to monitor his time with Louetta. She alleged that Thomas left a supervisor and Louetta behind at a Fourth of July parade and later barred the nanny from entering the Airbnb rental where he was staying with the child.
Family background and ongoing conflict
The parental battle over Louetta has escalated over recent months. Willis is the eldest daughter of Hollywood actors Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, who are known for their long careers in American cinema.
Moore has publicly entered the family dispute to support her daughter, voicing strong criticism against Thomas over his handling of the co parenting arrangement.
