Rolando Romero faced Teofimo Lopez in a World Boxing Association welterweight title fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday, August 22, 2026. Romero put his WBA welterweight belt on the line in one of the most anticipated boxing matches of the season.

The high-profile clash brought together two of the most recognized figures in modern boxing. Streaming coverage was made available online via DAZN Pay-Per-View, while broadcast options and related programming were offered through ESPN and Disney Plus Premium depending on regional media rights, with promotional highlights shared on X by Premier Boxing Champions.

Undercard action at the T-Mobile Arena featured Gary Antonio Russell defeating Victor Santillan by unanimous decision in their super bantamweight bout. All three judges scored the 12-round contest in favor of Russell, submitting scores of 118-109, 119-108, and 119-108.

In the super lightweight division, Carlos Utria earned a split decision victory against Israel Mercado. Two judges scored the 10-round fight 96-94 and 97-93 for Utria, while the third judge scored it 94-96 for Mercado.

Middleweight Marco Romero scored a rapid victory over Khalil Mitchell, stopping him by technical knockout at 2:33 of the first round. Super welterweight Joseph Brown secured a unanimous decision win against Alton Wiggins, with all three judges handing down identical scorecards of 60-54.

Super lightweight Aldo Blancas defeated Ricky Mamome by unanimous decision with scores of 39-36, 39-36, and 40-35. The event schedule also featured a middleweight fight between Yoenli Hernandez and Francisco Daniel Veron.

Romero entered the ring carrying a professional boxing record of 17 wins and two losses, with 13 knockouts. He previously won the WBA super lightweight title before moving up to capture the WBA welterweight championship on May 2, 2025, when he defeated Ryan Garcia by unanimous decision over 12 rounds.

Before meeting Lopez, Romero defeated Manuel Jaimes by unanimous decision over 10 rounds on September 14, 2024. That win followed an eighth-round technical knockout loss to Isaac Cruz on March 30, 2024, in a career that also includes a bout against Gervonta Davis.

Lopez entered the contest with a professional record of 22 wins and two losses, including 13 knockouts. He previously achieved unified lightweight world champion status after defeating Vasiliy Lomachenko, and later won the World Boxing Organization super lightweight belt.

Ahead of Saturday's card, Lopez suffered a unanimous decision loss to Shakur Stevenson over 12 rounds on January 31, 2026. That result followed consecutive 12-round unanimous decision victories over Arnold Barboza Jr. on May 2, 2025, and Steve Claggett on June 29, 2024, alongside previous bouts against George Kambosos Jr. and Josh Taylor.

The World Boxing Association, established in 1921, is the oldest of the major sanctioning bodies in professional boxing. Las Vegas remains a central hub for world championship boxing, with the T-Mobile Arena regularly hosting top-tier pay-per-view events.
