A duet between Peruvian singers Pelo D’Ambrosio and Cielo Fernández at a Corazón Serrano concert has drawn criticism on social media, with users claiming D’Ambrosio appeared to ignore his younger co-performer throughout the performance.
The pair shared the stage on July 28 to sing the song “Voy a llorar” at Acceso al Corazón 4, a large-scale concert held at the Costa 21 venue. Videos of the performance circulated online and prompted a wave of commentary about D’Ambrosio’s body language.
Several users said Fernández attempted to make eye contact with D’Ambrosio while they sang, but that he did not respond. At one point, according to viewers, Fernández walked around D’Ambrosio on stage, touched his back, and expressed enthusiasm at sharing the stage with him, but observers said D’Ambrosio showed no visible reaction. He wore sunglasses throughout the performance.
Social media reactions were pointed. Some users said D’Ambrosio appeared uncomfortable and refused to look at Fernández. Others suggested he may have arrived in poor condition, pointing to a moment early in the performance where Fernández appeared to mouth the lyrics to him. One commenter wrote that he seemed forced to appear and looked bored, and that it would have been better for him not to perform at all rather than make the young singer look bad.
Concert drew 18,000 attendees
Beyond the controversy, Acceso al Corazón 4 drew around 18,000 people to Costa 21 on July 28. Puerto Rican singer Olga Tañón was among the headline guests, performing some of her hits alongside Corazón Serrano, including “Es mentiroso” with vocalist Lesly Águila.
Colombian artists Jessi Uribe and Paola Jara also appeared, performing their collaborations with Corazón Serrano. Peruvian artists Lucho Paz and Pelo D’Ambrosio were also on the bill.
