Pabel Muñoz registered his candidacy on Thursday afternoon, August 6, to seek re-election to the Mayor's Office of Quito in the early sectional elections set for November 29, 2026.
Muñoz will run under an alliance between Popular Unity and the Socialist Party following the suspension of the Amigo movement, the organization that was going to host candidates from Correism.
On Thursday afternoon, the mayor and his supporters walked along Iñaquito Street toward the Pichincha Electoral Provincial Delegation to formalize the registration of his candidacy.
Campaign goals and municipal duties
Muñoz said his candidacy has the support of popular and political organizations, stating that his goal is to consolidate a transformation with social justice. He added that differences between the organizations did not prevent them from reaching consensus.
In a video released on his social media accounts on the night of August 5, Muñoz said he would continue in the electoral race through a political alliance and assured that he will maintain his work leading the Municipality as the electoral process moves forward.
