The Nothing Phone (3a) has been selected as the best budget smartphone to buy in the summer of 2026 by technology publication Tech Advisor.
Reviewers at the technology website tested dozens of devices from established and lesser-known brands before placing the handset at the top of their rankings. The device unexpectedly beat competing budget models from major industry rivals Samsung Electronics and Xiaomi Corporation by delivering maximum features for its price.
Nothing Technology Limited, a London-based consumer electronics manufacturer founded by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei in 2020, designed the handset to stand out in an affordable mobile market often dominated by conventional designs.
Design and transparent casing
Tech Advisor highlighted the distinctive transparent back panel and cyberpunk style as the primary advantage of the Nothing Phone (3a). Most inexpensive mobile devices feature standard visual designs, but Nothing focused on creating a recognizable appearance.

The (3a) model features a refined version of the company's signature Glyph lighting system. Light strips are neatly built around the camera block, displaying notifications, charging status, and other events even when the phone rests screen down on a flat surface.
Software features and battery performance
Beyond its exterior appearance, reviewers noted that the proprietary Nothing OS operating system remains a primary strength of the device. Unlike many budget smartphones that ship with overloaded software interfaces and preinstalled junk applications, Nothing OS looks concise and fast.
Nothing OS, built on Google's Android operating system, offers users exclusive widgets in the company's signature pixel style, extensive design customization options, and personal configuration settings.
A 5,000 mAh battery provides operational power for the device. While a capacity of 5,000 milliampere-hours is common among smartphones in 2026, Tech Advisor reported that strong software optimization allows the Phone (3a) to run significantly longer than many competing handsets.

Reviewers stated that completely draining the battery within a single day of active use remains difficult, while 50-watt fast charging support enables rapid energy replenishment when required.
Camera capabilities and pricing
The only noticeable weakness identified during testing was the 8-megapixel ultrawide camera. However, reviewers observed that it operates alongside high-quality main and telephoto camera modules that produce respectable photographs for its price segment.
Tech Advisor concluded that the Nothing Phone (3a) is suitable for buyers seeking a budget smartphone with an unusual design, a comfortable operating system, and long battery life without paying flagship prices.
Although the handset has been succeeded by the newer Nothing Phone (4a), reviewers stated that the Phone (3a) remains a more economical option for the budget market. The base version with 8 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of storage is currently available starting from 300 euros.
The recommendation follows earlier guidance from tech experts identifying popular smartphone models entering their final year of official software support in 2026, advising consumers against buying outdated devices and encouraging existing owners to prepare for an upgrade.
