Moscow to See Above-Normal Heat All Week, Expert Says

Moscow will see air temperatures above the climatic norm during the first week of August, according to Tatiana Pozdnyakova, chief specialist at Meteonovosti, who spoke to RTVI.

Pozdnyakova said the heat would last the entire working week. She said the air would warm to 25-27 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, August 4, and to 26-28 degrees on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday would be the hottest days, with temperatures reaching 27-29 degrees, she said.

Wind shift blamed for warm spell

Pozdnyakova said the wind would shift to a westerly direction, meaning temperatures would stay a few degrees above the climatic norm for nearly the rest of the week. She added that the second half of the week could bring rain to the city, though it would be brief and localized.

Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry had earlier urged Moscow residents to take caution from Wednesday to Friday, August 5-7, when strong heat with maximum temperatures of up to 30-32 degrees was expected.
