Nighttime temperatures across the Moscow region are set to drop to 3 degrees Celsius over the coming two nights, according to weather specialists.
Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Fobos weather center, announced on the Max messenger service that overnight conditions in Moscow Oblast could range between plus 3 and plus 8 degrees Celsius as cold air moves into the region.
During the previous night, the baseline weather station at VDNKh recorded a temperature of 9.8 degrees Celsius above zero in central Moscow. However, outlying areas saw significantly cooler weather, with temperatures in New Moscow falling to plus 3.8 degrees Celsius.
An identical low of plus 3.8 degrees Celsius was recorded in Serebryanye Prudy. That measurement represented the lowest temperature recorded across the territory of Moscow Oblast that night.
VDNKh, the historic exhibition complex in northern Moscow, hosts the capital's main meteorological station for official climate tracking. New Moscow encompasses administrative territories added to the capital during a major municipality expansion in 2012, while Serebryanye Prudy lies in the far southern region of Moscow Oblast.
Regional drop in Central Federal District
Unseasonably low temperatures were recorded across Russia's Central Federal District during the same period. Leus noted that night temperatures dropped to 4.4 degrees Celsius above zero in Kaluga Oblast and 4.3 degrees in Tula Oblast.
Thermometers also registered 4 degrees Celsius above zero in Ryazan Oblast, plus 3.9 degrees in Tver Oblast, and plus 3.7 degrees in Smolensk Oblast.
In Yaroslavl Oblast, night temperatures dropped to plus 1.8 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature across the Central Federal District was recorded in Kostroma Oblast, where the mercury reached just plus 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Further cooling is anticipated for the coming night across central Russia. Kaluga and Tver Oblasts are expected to record minimum temperatures ranging between plus 2 and plus 7 degrees Celsius, while Ryazan and Vladimir Oblasts will see temperatures between plus 1 and plus 6 degrees Celsius.
In Yaroslavl and Ivanovo Oblasts, nighttime temperatures are forecast between zero and plus 5 degrees Celsius. Kostroma Oblast is expected to remain the coldest area in the district, with weather specialists warning that the first frosts of the season could occur there.
Warmer weather returning next week
A shift in weather patterns is forecast for Moscow at the start of next week, when a warming trend is expected to take hold across the capital.
According to the forecast, weather conditions in the city will be determined by the warm sector of an approaching cyclone. Daytime temperatures are projected to climb to between plus 23 and 24 degrees Celsius, while precipitation is expected to cease.
