Urban salsa singer Menteabierta performed before thousands of people on September 23 at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium in Santo Domingo. The artist took the stage during a major concert celebrating 50 years in music for legendary merengue master Ramón Orlando.
Menteabierta closed out the New Salseros segment of the show with a performance of his song Eso Da Pena. The special musical showcase also featured performances by fellow singers Jura Valoy and John Salgado.
Musical producer Wilbert Taveras, who works directly with Menteabierta, served as the director for the New Salseros section of the concert. The appearance marked the singer's first time performing in front of a stadium-sized audience of thousands.
Reflecting on the milestone, Menteabierta said that standing in front of so many people on a stage was an experience he had never known before. He added that he never imagined his first performance before thousands of spectators would happen on such a historic night.
The Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium, located in the capital city of the Dominican Republic, is the country's primary venue for massive sporting events and major international music concerts. The stadium is named after the two-time Olympic gold medalist hurdler Félix Sánchez. For Menteabierta, who raised his profile coming out of the Los Mina neighborhood in Santo Domingo Este, the venue provided the largest crowd of his career.
Ramón Orlando anniversary concert
The anniversary event, officially titled 50 years Ramón Orlando and his friends, paid tribute to the five-decade career of Ramón Orlando. As a pianist, composer, and bandleader, Orlando has long been recognized as one of the defining figures of Dominican merengue and tropical music, drawing generations of fans to celebrate his legacy.
The inclusion of the New Salseros segment highlighted the evolving landscape of contemporary tropical music in the Dominican Republic. Directed by Taveras, the section aimed to showcase emerging talent in urban salsa, a modern subgenre that blends classic salsa rhythms with urban street influences and contemporary vocals.
Menteabierta is signed to La Oreja Media Group, an independent record label and music publisher known for supporting Latin music creators. Following his performance at the Olympic Stadium, the artist is actively continuing his work on promoting his musical project and developing new releases.
