Actress and CMTV television presenter Luciana Abreu met former Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on Saturday, August 15, at a hotel in Monte Gordo where she was on holiday.
Abreu, who hosts the program Olá, Bom Dia, was staying at the hotel with her eight-year-old twin daughters, Amoor and Valentine. The former head of state greeted Abreu, and her daughters welcomed him with hugs and kisses.
Writing in a social media caption alongside photos taken with the former president, Abreu said he stood out above all for his gestures of closeness. She stated that whether people liked it or not, his hugs, informal conversations, photographs with everyone, and presence alongside communities in difficult moments had become his defining identity.
Abreu noted that they had crossed paths numerous times before he became president, during his term, and after leaving office. She explained that they live in the same city, Cascais, and stay at the same holiday hotel in Monte Gordo. She added that critics used to claim his affectionate nature was only a tactic to win votes, asking what those critics would say now.
Hospital discharge and television appearances
The encounter follows recent reports concerning the former president, who thanked healthcare professionals after being discharged from Faro Hospital. Upon leaving the hospital, Rebelo de Sousa stated that he was fortunate to leave and enjoy the remaining two or three days of his vacation.
In addition to her television hosting duties on CMTV, Abreu also sang with Gonçalo Ramos during a live broadcast of Olá, Bom Dia.
