Spanish directors Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, Colombian actor John Leguizamo and rising star Inde Navarrete will be honoured by Hollywood critics at an annual event celebrating Hispanic and Latino talent in film and television.
The sixth edition of the Celebration of Cinema and Television will take place in Beverly Hills in the United States on October 2.
Cannes success
Ambrossi and Calvo, popularly known as Los Javis, will receive the best director award for their upcoming feature 'La Bola Negra'. The film is inspired by an unfinished work by the Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca.
Garcia Lorca, one of Spain's most celebrated literary figures and playwrights, was executed during the early days of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, leaving behind a body of work that continues to influence modern Spanish culture.
The directors' feature won the best director prize at the latest Cannes Film Festival in France, where it received a standing ovation lasting several minutes. The film is scheduled for a theatrical premiere on September 25 before arriving on the Netflix streaming platform.
The production features a star-studded cast led by Spanish singer Guitarricadelafuente, alongside Miguel Bernardeau, Carlos Gonzalez, Milo Quifes, Lola Dueñas, Julio Torres, Penelope Cruz and Glenn Close.
Cruz is an Academy Award-winning actress known for her frequent collaborations with Spanish director Pedro Almodovar, while Close has received multiple Oscar nominations over her extensive stage and screen career.
Career recognition
Leguizamo will receive the career achievement award, recognising more than four decades of work in film, television and theatre that have earned him Emmy and Tony awards. The actor's recent credits include a role in British-American director Christopher Nolan's acclaimed film 'The Odyssey'.
Navarrete will take home the breakthrough actress award in the film category for her acclaimed role in the cinematic release 'Obssession'. The film has become a major box office phenomenon, with more than $500 million grossed worldwide.
Additional honourees
The list of honourees also includes Oscar-nominated Brazilian film producer Rodrigo Teixeira. He has been behind major critical successes including the coming-of-age drama 'Call Me By Your Name' and the international feature winner 'I'm Still Here'.
Actor James Ortiz will receive the innovation award for his work on 'Project Hail Mary', while Aimee Carrero will win best supporting actress for her performance in the Apple TV series 'Your Friends & Neighbors'.
Beth de Araújo will earn the breakthrough director honour for her film 'Josephine', and Laysa De Oliveira will take the breakthrough actress in a series award for her work in the television programme 'Lioness'.
