Ioanna Paliospirou Responds to Abusive Acid Attack Message

Greek acid attack survivor Ioanna Paliospirou has published an abusive social media message from a user who wished her attacker would target her again.

The message was sent by an unidentified man on Instagram six years after Paliospirou suffered severe facial injuries in a vitriol attack.

The sender expressed frustration with the daily videos and photos Paliospirou shares online, which highlight aspects of her personal life and personal interests.

He claimed that it was improper for her to post such content continuously while other people struggled to afford food, telling her to stop posting and remain quiet.

In the text posted to Paliospirou's Instagram story, the user wrote that her frequent updates were annoying and accused her of trying to act like a prominent figure from morning until night.

The man wrote that he would like the woman responsible for the original attack to be released from prison so she could throw vitriol at Paliospirou a second time.

He added that the attacker was justified in carrying out the assault, stating he assumed Paliospirou had been an annoying person prior to the incident.

Response to online abuse

Paliospirou remained calm upon receiving the message and shared a screenshot of the exchange with her followers.

In her public response, she asked the sender why he was behaving in such a manner and questioned whether her death would bring any improvement to his own life.

Paliospirou became a prominent public figure and survivor advocate following the high-profile acid attack she suffered outside her workplace in Athens.

Following the attack, the perpetrator was tried, convicted, and sentenced to prison by a Greek court.

Recovery journey and public posts

Since the assault, Paliospirou has undergone extensive medical treatment and reconstructive procedures, regularly sharing updates on her rehabilitation process.

In April 2026, she published photographs documenting her physical rehabilitation, describing her ongoing efforts to rebuild her life and physical identity.

The following month, she marked the six-year anniversary of the attack, describing the day of the assault as the moment she initially thought her life was over, but ultimately viewed as the start of her rebirth.

Paliospirou continues to use her online platform to document her ongoing recovery while confronting online harassment directly.
