Building material prices in Greece rose by 4.8 percent in July 2026 compared with the same month last year, driven by price increases across every product category, official statistical data shows.
The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) reported that the overall price index of construction materials for new residential buildings expanded at a faster annual pace than in the previous period. The 4.8 percent annual rise recorded in July 2026 compares with an annual increase of 2.9 percent recorded between July 2024 and July 2025.
On a month-on-month basis, construction material costs increased by 0.6 percent in July 2026 compared with June 2026. That monthly growth rate was double the 0.3 percent increase recorded between June 2025 and July 2025.
Breakdown of material price increases
ELSTAT stated that price hikes were recorded across all individual subcategories of building supplies during the month. Diesel fuel recorded the highest price surge among construction inputs, rising by 17.7 percent compared to July 2025.
Substantial cost increases were also recorded for structural materials and wiring components. Brick prices increased by 11.6 percent, while copper conductors rose by 10 percent. Ready-mix concrete saw a price hike of 6.2 percent, and prices for plastic, synthetic, and fibre cement pipes climbed by 5.2 percent.
Mortar and ready-mix concrete additives also rose by 5.2 percent year on year. Aluminium frames recorded a 4.8 percent increase, followed by parquet flooring at 4.3 percent, and general floor and wall tiles at 4.2 percent.
Cement, steel and elevator costs
Other essential construction products and interior fittings also posted price gains. Cement prices increased by 4.1 percent, while marble slabs and water-based acrylic paints both rose by 3.7 percent. Reinforcing steel registered a 3.4 percent gain, and lift prices increased by 3 percent.
The general price index of construction materials for new residential buildings measures the cost variations of materials incurred during the construction of domestic housing units. The monthly index is calculated by tracking direct material prices across suppliers and distribution networks.
