The Academy rules on the 2022 Oscars and the Los Angeles police may launch an investigation if Chris Rock changes his mind

After the awkward and tense moment in the middle of the Oscars gala, when the American comedian Chris Rock made a comment in a “joke” tone about Will Smith’s wife’s hair, and he responded with a slap, the reactions began by social networks.

Will Smith and Chris Rock have already made amends after the Oscars slap, says rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs

One of the accounts that rejected this terrible fact was the official account of the Academy, which is in charge of awarding the best actors and actresses in Hollywood in each edition of the Oscars.

The Academy ruled on the incident

As reported by the web portal La Sexta, after a few hours of the moment that surprised everyone on the night of the 94th edition of the Oscars, the Academy spoke and referred to the fact in its account. Twitter clarifying that “the Academy does not condone violence in any form.”

Apart from this, in the same tweet he mentioned:

Tonight we are delighted to celebrate the winners of the 94th Academy Awards, who deserve this moment of recognition from their peers and movie lovers around the world.

For its part, in a statement published to the media, the Los Angeles police said they were aware of the incident but that the victim in question, Chris Rock, refused to file a formal complaint. However, if Rock changes his mind, Smith could be in serious trouble with the law.

“LAPD investigative entities are aware of an incident between two people during the Academy Awards show,” reads the message from local police after the show ended.

This is part of what the statement reads: “The incident involved one individual slapping another. The individual involved has refused to file a police report. If the involved party desires a police report at a later date, the LAPD will be available to complete an investigative report.”

If the actor decides to change his mind, Smith could face a misdemeanor assault charge.

Despite this situation, Will Smith won the award for best actor in the movie “King Richard”, but given the fact that it happened moments before the award ceremony, the joy turned into an unfortunate moment at the awards.

Just a few minutes later, he went upstairs to pick up his statuette and spoke about the situation. In his nervous and tearful speech, the actor apologized to the Academy and the nominees, but at the same time he tried to justify the facts by saying that his character as Richard Williams in the film was a brave defender of his family.

Unfortunately, this incident tarnished what could have been a glorious moment in his career, since this is the first Oscar he has won, and everyone will remember this moment for the reprehensible slap he gave comedian Chris Rock live and direct before hundreds of people, and millions of others in their homes since the official broadcast of the award ceremony.
