Osiptel: Peru is among the countries with the best mobile internet speed in South America

Peru is the fourth country with the fastest mobile internet in South America, according to the evaluation published in September by the firm specializing in network data analysis, Ookla, reported the Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel).

The average download speed of mobile internet in Peru during September was 24,8 Mbps (megabits per second), 0.7 Mbps less than that registered in August of this year. Despite the slight decrease, the result places our country above Ecuador (24.6 Mbps), Bolivia (22.6 Mbps), Chile (21.2 Mbps), Paraguay (20.7 Mbps), Colombia (18.3 Mbps ) and Venezuela (7.7 Mbps). It also surpasses the South American average of 24.2 Mbps.

For its part, the first places in the table are made up of Uruguay (38.1 Mbps), Brazil (29.9 Mbps) and Argentina (29.8 Mbps).

Fixed internet speed

As for the fixed internet, its download speed reached 58.7 Mbps in September. The result is 0.7 Mbps more than in August, according to Ookla. Meanwhile, the performance of Wi-Fi, which considers the speed of fixed broadband, Peru ranked 7th out of the 10 countries evaluated, with 75.4 Mbps. However, its performance was higher than Ecuador (39.1 Mbps), Bolivia (27.8 ) and Venezuela (23.9 Mbps).

Guyana and Suriname do not participate in the evaluations because they constitute a small market, less than 1% of Internet users in South America.
