Dollar closes higher at S/3.7090 today, Tuesday, April 23

The exchange rate closed at S/3.7090, representing an increase of 0.27% compared to the last day where it stood at S/3.6990, according to the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).

In the parallel market, the greenback is priced at S/3.68 for purchase and S/3.72 for sale; while in banking, the purchase and sale is at S/3.70 and S/3,731, respectively.

During the day, the demand came from non-residents and the supply, to a small extent, from corporates. In that sense, the dollar began with a minimum price of S/3.6860 and closed with a maximum price of S/3.7100. Likewise, US$447 million were negotiated in the market at an average price of S/3.7001 and there were maturities of Exchange Swaps Sale for S/600 million, explained Allisson Pérez, Foreign Exchange Trader at Renta4 SAB.

On the other hand, the euro has experienced a notable appreciation this April, driven by the continued increase in business activity for the second consecutive month. While in the United States, data related to the services and manufacturing PMI were published, which have been lower than expectations. However, sales of new homes have shown a more solid performance, exceeding projections by reaching 693 thousand units, compared to the 668 thousand anticipated, explains Pérez.

So far this year, the dollar has accumulated a variation of 0.05% and in year-on-year terms, -1.41%, according to the BCRP.
