Russian business coach Dmitry Portnyagin has been sentenced to five years in prison by the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow after being convicted of money laundering and bribery.
Following the sentencing on September 30, 2026, courtroom escort officers immediately placed the entrepreneur under arrest and transferred him directly to a pre-trial detention facility.
In addition to the prison term, the judge sustained an eight million ruble civil lawsuit against Portnyagin, his wife Ekaterina, and his business partner Alexey Nikolaev. The court did not specify the identity of the plaintiff who filed the civil claim requiring the trio to pay the eight million rubles.

State news agency TASS reported the verdict directly from its correspondent present inside the Meshchansky courtroom in the Russian capital. The court found Portnyagin guilty of giving a bribe and laundering funds that had been obtained through criminal means.
Portnyagin is a high-profile Russian blogger and business coach known for building a commercial brand around entrepreneurship, motivational seminars, and social media content. Meshchansky District Court, located in central Moscow, handles major criminal and civil cases involving financial offenses and official corruption within the city's jurisdiction.
Under Russian legal procedures, civil claims for monetary compensation can be combined directly with criminal prosecutions. This allows courts to determine financial damages alongside penal sentences. Defendants sentenced to custodial terms are held in pre-trial detention centers, known as SIZO facilities, while formal post-trial administration and transport to correctional institutions are arranged.
Detention and courtroom custody
Courtroom security officers took Portnyagin into custody as soon as the judge finished reading the sentence. The businessman was led out of the courtroom under guard before being driven away in a transport vehicle to begin serving his time in detention.
The total financial ruling against Portnyagin, Ekaterina, and Nikolaev stands at eight million rubles under the civil judgment, alongside Portnyagin's five-year custodial sentence pronounced at the conclusion of the court proceedings.
