The Castelas in Belpech, a medieval castle ruin in the Aude region of France, will host a special evening dedicated to the solar eclipse and the Perseid meteor shower on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, starting at 7 p.m.

A historic site under restoration
The Castelas is the historic birthplace of Belpech, preserving the remains of the old medieval castle around which the village developed. For several years, the Association de defense du Castelas has worked to save, restore and promote the site, with support from the municipality and numerous volunteers.

What the evening includes
The program includes a convivial aperitif, a potluck-style auberge espagnole meal, and observation of the eclipse followed by the Perseid shooting stars, with the possibility of songs under the night sky. Organizers describe the event as an invitation to rediscover the emblematic site while enjoying an exceptional natural spectacle.
People interested in attending are asked to register by emailing [email protected] and to bring something to sit comfortably.
