The ASUS Zenbook DUO UX8407 went on sale in Spain in May 2026, advancing the Taiwanese company's dual-screen laptop family. The device is powered by an Intel Core Ultra X9 388H processor and Intel Arc B390 graphics, backed by a 99 Wh battery that significantly increases its capacity over the previous generation.
ASUS has revised the hinge, stand and detachable keyboard to improve the experience of working with two integrated screens. The system is designed for users who need to run multiple applications simultaneously without carrying an external monitor.
Redesigned hinge and detachable keyboard
The laptop features a sober metal construction with a Moher grey finish. It measures 31.01 by 20.86 centimetres and is between 1.96 and 2.34 cm thick. The unit weighs 1.65 kg with the keyboard attached, making it bulkier than a traditional 14-inch ultralight computer to accommodate the additional hardware.
The most obvious physical change is the redesigned hinge, which significantly narrows the gap between the two panels. A revised rear stand makes it easier to stack the screens or position them side by side. The device remains stable on a flat surface and feels more solid than its predecessor when both screens are deployed, while the seam between the displays is less intrusive when stretching an image across both panels.
The detachable keyboard attaches magnetically to the lower screen and charges while connected. It connects via Bluetooth when separated from the main body. The keys have 1.7 mm of travel for comfortable extended typing, and the base is surprisingly rigid for a thin accessory. The generously sized touchpad responds well, meaning the detached keyboard does not feel like a secondary peripheral.
When the physical keyboard is removed, the lower screen can display a virtual keyboard using ASUS ScreenXpert software. While useful for quick searches or short messages, the lack of physical feedback makes it less comfortable for typing long texts. For extended typing, the detachable physical keyboard remains the better option.
The laptop provides two Thunderbolt 4 ports that support charging and video output, one USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 port, an HDMI 2.1 connection and a 3.5 mm combination audio jack. It supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. While the port selection covers most use cases, it lacks an SD card reader, which is often required by photographers and video creators.
Intel Panther Lake and Arc graphics
The system is equipped with the Intel Core Ultra X9 388H, a Panther Lake processor featuring 16 cores and 16 threads capable of reaching 5.1 GHz. It includes a neural processing unit (NPU) capable of up to 50 TOPS. This is paired with 32 GB of LPDDR5X memory and a 2 TB PCIe 4.0 solid state drive. The memory is soldered to the board and cannot be expanded, though the M.2 SSD can be replaced. This limitation should be considered given the device's price and intended lifespan.
The laptop easily manages numerous browser tabs, messaging apps, documents and editing software spread across both screens without frustrating delays. The dual-screen layout allows users to keep a primary application on the top panel while using the bottom screen for emails, reference material or secondary tools.
Thermal performance is managed through MyASUS profiles. Lower power modes keep the cooling fans quiet and provide enough power for browsing, office work and media playback. Selecting the maximum performance mode for heavy workloads makes the cooling noise more obvious and raises the temperature on the lower section of the chassis.
The integrated Intel Arc B390 graphics handle competitive games and moderately demanding titles well at 1080p resolution. For more intensive games, users can lower the graphical settings and rely on scaling technologies like XeSS to maintain a stable frame rate. It is not a dedicated gaming machine and does not replace a GeForce RTX system, but it can play more than just simple titles.
Copilot+ and dual-screen software
The Zenbook DUO ships with Windows 11 Home and meets the requirements for a Copilot+ PC, relying on its NPU. A dedicated keyboard button launches Microsoft Copilot, with artificial intelligence features depending on the application and regional availability.
ASUS provides a suite of tools to manage the dual-screen setup. MyASUS handles battery, cooling, diagnostics and display parameters. ScreenXpert organises windows, moves content between the panels, summons the virtual keyboard and can temporarily turn off one screen. The system also includes GlideX, which lets users turn smartphones and tablets into additional displays.
Windows window management takes a few minutes to learn, but the workflow feels natural after a brief adaptation period. Moving applications between screens and reorganising content quickly becomes a constant part of the daily workflow.
OLED displays and audio
The device uses two 14-inch ASUS Lumina Pro OLED touchscreens with a 3K resolution of 2880 by 1800 pixels and a 16:10 aspect ratio. They feature a variable refresh rate of up to 144 Hz and a 0.2 millisecond response time. The screens offer full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space, Pantone validation and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certification. They reach around 500 nits of brightness in standard dynamic range and up to 1,000 nits with HDR content.
Both panels deliver excellent quality with deep blacks, intense colours and sharp text. Because they share the same specifications, users can move photos and videos between them without seeing a difference in colour or brightness. The 144 Hz refresh rate ensures smooth scrolling in Windows and supported applications.
An anti-glare treatment reduces reflections from nearby light sources and minimises the mirror effect common to OLED touchscreens, though direct light can still cause glare. The screens are bright enough for comfortable indoor work throughout the day.
Users can operate the device as a standard laptop with the keyboard over the bottom screen, stack the screens, stand them vertically side by side, or lay them flat to share content. Both panels support the ASUS Pen for writing and drawing.
The audio system uses six speakers to deliver high volume and clean reproduction for music and video calls, with distinct stereo separation and clear voices. Bass response remains limited by the laptop's physical size. The infrared webcam supports Windows Hello facial recognition and produces a clear image in good lighting, but loses detail in low light.
Extended 99 Wh battery
To power the two high-resolution screens, ASUS has increased the battery capacity from 75 Wh in the previous model to 99 Wh.
In testing, the battery lasted nearly 12 hours for web browsing and 15 hours for local video playback with both screens active. Using only a single screen pushed those figures to 18 hours for browsing and 32 hours for video. Actual battery life will vary based on brightness, refresh rate, active applications and the selected power profile.
The battery provides enough power for extended work sessions with both screens running, meaning the dual-screen format is not entirely dependent on a wall socket. Continuous use of the processor, the 144 Hz refresh rate, video calls or editing software will drain the battery faster. The included 100W USB-C adapter is relatively compact and recharges the laptop quickly.
The ASUS Zenbook DUO UX8407 carries a recommended price of 3,499 euros. It is targeted at professionals, creators and programmers who require the space of a second monitor without giving up the portability of a laptop.
