Albin Kurti pelted with eggs in Kosovo parliament session

Opposition lawmakers in Kosovo attacked Deputy Prime Minister Albin Kurti with eggs on Saturday during a parliamentary session held to constitute the body.

An opposition lawmaker threw eggs at Kurti inside the chamber, prompting members of his ruling party to rush to his defense. Parliament suspended the session following the clash, which came after early elections on June 7.

Political deadlock

The June 7 elections failed to resolve Kosovo's political stalemate, leaving the nation in an unstable climate of governance that has lasted for 16 months.

Kurti's Self-Determination movement finished first in the election. However, the party lacks a parliamentary majority, keeping government stability precarious and political tensions high.
