Opposition MP Time Kadrijaj Throws Eggs at Albin Kurti

Opposition lawmaker Time Kadrijaj threw eggs at Kosovo acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti during a parliamentary session on Saturday.

Kadrijaj, a member of parliament representing the Alliance party, pulled the eggs out of her handbag during the chamber meeting. She launched them directly at the acting prime minister while shouting shame at him, causing chaos inside the parliament hall.

Fellow members of Kurti's party immediately rushed forward to protect their leader from the attack. Parliamentary officials suspended the session shortly after the disruption began.

Parliamentary Consultation Deadlock

The egg throwing incident happened after Kurti informed parliament that he needed additional time to hold talks with other political parties. Kurti said he required more consultations before he could formally propose a candidate for speaker of parliament.

The parliamentary session was held in the aftermath of snap elections conducted on June 7. The vote failed to deliver a clear outcome to resolve the country's ongoing political stalemate.

Ongoing Political Deadlock in Kosovo

Kurti's Self-Determination movement finished as the largest political force in the June election. However, the ruling party failed to secure the required parliamentary majority needed to govern alone.

The failure to establish a stable majority in parliament has resulted in extended negotiations among party leaders. Electing a new speaker of parliament remains one of the principal unresolved issues facing the assembly.
