An 87-year-old man died in Veria, Greece, after being struck by a truck at a busy intersection in the city.
The crash happened just after 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, at the traffic lights on Kyprou Street near the "Galaxias" supermarket, according to pressroom.gr.
Man trapped under wheels
The circumstances remain under investigation. The heavy vehicle struck the elderly man, leaving him trapped under its wheels, which shocked bystanders at the scene.
Traffic police and an EKAB ambulance crew responded immediately. Paramedics gave first aid to the severely injured man and rushed him to Veria General Hospital.
Died from severe injuries
Despite doctors' efforts, the 87-year-old could not be saved and died a short time after arriving at the hospital from his severe injuries.
The Veria Traffic Police Department is leading the preliminary investigation and gathering evidence to determine the exact circumstances of the fatal crash.
