Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine has signed a landmark 100-year partnership agreement with Canada to strengthen long-term political, economic, and security ties between the two nations.
The announcement was delivered during a press conference following the Ukrainian leader's official visit to Canada, with the event streamed live on the official YouTube channel of the presidential office.

Zelensky emphasized that the century-long agreement is intended to significantly deepen bilateral relations, focusing on expanding strategic cooperation across economic sectors, political alignment, and defense initiatives.
In addition to the overarching partnership deal, officials signed a separate bilateral agreement dedicated specifically to defense sector cooperation. Under this arrangement, critical air defense interceptor missiles will be supplied to Ukraine through the American Jumpstart mechanism.
Defense cooperation and international security
Air defense capabilities have become a paramount priority for Ukrainian defense strategy, as interceptor missiles are essential for protecting urban centers, energy infrastructure, and military sites from aerial bombardment. The American Jumpstart mechanism serves as a streamlined transfer channel to facilitate the rapid procurement and delivery of vital defense hardware.
Volodymyr Zelensky was elected president of Ukraine in 2019 after previously working as an actor and comedian. Since taking office, he has led Ukraine through severe geopolitical challenges, continuously advocating for robust international security guarantees and long-term bilateral treaties with Western partner nations.
Canada's role as a key Western partner
Canada, located in North America with its capital in Ottawa, is a prominent member of both NATO and the Group of Seven leading industrial nations. The country is home to a substantial Ukrainian diaspora, reflecting deep historical and cultural connections between the two sovereign states.
Throughout recent international diplomacy, Canada has consistently acted as a steadfast ally of Ukraine, offering military hardware, financial aid, and humanitarian support. The newly signed 100-year partnership establishes a formal blueprint for sustained collaboration between Kyiv and Ottawa across the coming century.
