Donald Trump has renewed his push to bring Greenland under United States control, posting a series of messages on Truth Social that suggested he remains determined to annex the Danish autonomous territory. The posts also included a map depicting Venezuela as the 51st U.S. state.
In a phone interview with Real America’s Voice host Steve Grouber on Friday, Trump confirmed the ambition when Grouber predicted that Greenland would be under U.S. operational control before Trump’s term ends. Trump told Grouber he would turn out to be right, and said Greenland was important from the American perspective, though not from Greenland’s own.
Trump insisted in the interview that such an outcome was very likely. He has long argued that Washington needs Greenland for strategic defense reasons. He previously said he would not rule out using force to acquire it, but later clarified he did not intend to use military power.
The president had made fewer public references to Greenland in recent months, but he returned to the subject at last month’s NATO summit, where he said Greenland should be under United States control rather than Denmark’s.
