The number of people killed on the La Marmolada glacier in the Italian Alps has risen to seven, Italian authorities reported today.
In addition, the emergency services have maintained their search operations throughout the night, to try to locate between 10 and 15 people who are still missing in this area after the detachment on Sunday.
A spokesman for the National Directorate of Alpine Rescue, Fabio Bristot, already admitted on Sunday night that “it will be difficult to find someone alive.”
Search teams have used drones equipped with thermal cameras to try to locate the missing, while families wait for some kind of news from the Dolomites, which have become the epicenter of the tragedy.

The researchers suspect the detachment of a serac, a block of ice inside a glacier, and that it devastated everything in its path, including entire groups of mountaineers. The authorities fear that not even all the victims can be identified, since the avalanche of ice and stones has caused serious damage to the bodies, reports the Rai chain.
Municipalities in the area have issued orders to avoid the affected area until search efforts have been completed and the area is safe again.
