EU leaders called on Russia to unblock Ukrainian ports
27 country leaders urged Russia to immediately stop attacks on Ukrainian agricultural facilities and export Ukrainian grain to itself, and to unblock Black Sea ports (especially the port of Odessa) to allow grain exports and restore commercial shipping.
“The European Council supports the efforts of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in this regard. It also emphasizes that the EU’s sanctions against Russia allow the free movement of agricultural and food products and the delivery of humanitarian aid,” we read in.
Due to the Russian blockade, more than 20 million tonnes of grain was stuck in the ports, which Ukraine exported mainly to the countries of Africa and the Middle East.

EU countries create the so-called solidarity corridors to export Ukrainian grain as a priority. European ports, ships, additional rolling stock and trucks are available. Transport takes place mainly through Poland and Romania.

In the report on Thursday’s session, a declaration was made that “the European Commission will shortly present a proposal for the granting of the next tranche of emergency macro-financial assistance in the amount of up to EUR 9 billion”. The Council called on the EC to “in consultation with international partners, organizations and experts swiftly present its proposals for EU support for the reconstruction of Ukraine.”
