British Prime Minister, Boris Johnsonhas recognized that the conservatives have fitted “hard” results but also “progress”, in the municipal elections partial elections held this Thursday in the United Kingdom, of which the counting of votes continues.
Asked by journalists at an event held in London, Johnson has assured that he assumes responsibility for the setback of his party, especially in the capital, due in part to the scandal for the illegal parties in his Downing Street office and residence during the pandemic.
The head of government, who refused to resign after being fined for violating anticovid regulations, he maintains that the losses in these local elections send a clear “message” from voters that they want the government to focus “on the big problems that affect them.”
The priorities are, he specifies, “getting the country forward, resolving the consequences of covid and the impact on the economy, addressing the shortages in the energy supply, which is what causes the inflationary peak, and continuing with the plan to create qualified employment with high salaries”.
Johnson warns that the situation for citizens “will be difficult” in the short term but insisted that the Government, with him at the helm, “is absolutely determined to move forward with every bit of compassion and ingenuity” it has to help them.
Asked about the possibility that Sinn Féin Republicans (supporters of the reunification of the island of Ireland) win in the autonomous elections of Northern Ireland, the conservative leader maintains that “the most important thing is to continue supporting the balance forged within the Good Friday Agreement (of 1997) for all communities” of the British province.
