Ukraine hopes to be able to evacuate civilians locked up in Azovstal today

The Russian Army has continued its offensive in the east and south of Ukraine in the last 24 hours, although with fewer attacks than in previous days.

Ukraine hopes to be able to evacuate the civilians locked up in the steelworks during the day this Friday Azovstal in Mariúpol, where according to the authorities, half a thousand soldiers of the neo-Nazi Azov regiment, which is part of the Ukrainian army, and a thousand civilians are taking refuge. Putin on Thursday gave the go-ahead for the International Committee of the Red Cross to participate in the evacuation of civilians.

The Russian Army has continued its offensive in the east and south of Ukraine in the last 24 hours, although with fewer attacks than in previous days.

“The Russian enemy continues to carry out offensive operations in the Eastern Operational Zone to defeat the (Ukrainian) Joint Forces, establish full control over the territory of the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk and maintain the land route with occupied Crimea,” said the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to local agencies.

According to the Ukrainian military report, in recent hours there have been bombings at various points in both regions, and although the situation is tense, no casualties have been reported.

The military army has also reported that “the Russian invaders have not carried out active offensive operations in the direction of Izium”, an area especially punished by the Russian offensive in recent days; Their main efforts have focused on reconnaissance, identifying Ukrainian defensive positions and their destruction by artillery fire.

Donetsk and Luhansk are two pro-Russian regions that declared their independence as republics in 2014; on May 12 of that year they asked to join Russia, after a referendum held between combats and without international observers. Eight years later, and two days before the invasion of Ukraine began, Moscow recognized them as independent republics.

kyiv under attack again

On the other hand, the Russian army, which began the invasion of Ukraine on February 24, had stopped bombing the city of Kyiv and its surroundings in recent weeks, but this Thursday it has attacked it again, although without causing fatalities. The attacks have coincided with the visit of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.

In the “temporarily occupied” territories, the Russian occupation authorities continue to restrict movement and detain local residents and block humanitarian aid goods flowing through the territory of Ukraine, the military underlines.

In the war report it is also denounced that “the Russian occupiers are stealing from local farmers. For example, more than 60 tons of wheat were stolen from an agricultural facility in the city of Kamianka-Dniprovska, along with the trucks that were in area”.

Separately, according to kyiv, the Ukrainians shot down 15 air targets over the last day, including one fighter jet, five cruise missiles and nine drones.
