The end of the war will not be possible without a meeting with Putin, according to Zelensky

The Ukrainian president has assured that he is willing to talk about the “occupied territories” of Crimea and Donbas in this alleged meeting with Putin.

The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, has stated in the last few hours that “the end of the war” will not be possible without a meeting “in any format” with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, and has assured that he is willing to talk “about the occupied territories” of Crimea and Donbas. He added that without that meeting “you can’t really understand what they are willing to do to stop the war.”

In this sense, he assured that in this hypothetical meeting with Putin “he is ready to raise questions about the occupied territories” of Crimea and Donbas. “They are relevant to us and very important. But I am sure that this decision will not be made at that meeting,” he said, as reported by the Ukrainian news agencies.

For this reason, he insisted that First must take “the first step towards the security guarantees and a ceasefire“, he pointed out. “This long enough process will be decided by the Council and the people of Ukraine,” he added.

The president of Ukraine has previously said that, in any case, the commitments made with Russia must be ratified by the Ukrainian citizens through a referendum.

From the Russian Government they believe that this is not the time to speak, understanding that there has not yet been sufficient progress in the negotiations.
