The fourth round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine began Monday morning via videoconference, said Mykhailo Podoliak, a negotiator and adviser to Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky.
“Communication (with Moscow) is still established although it is complicated,” Podoliak wrote on Twitter, stating that “both parties would express their concrete positions”.
“The reason for our disagreements comes from the fact that we have very different political systems,” he underlined, qualifying Russia’s “the maximum oppression of their own society”.
This is the fourth round of talks between Podoliak and its Russian counterpart, Vladimir Medinsky, adviser to the Kremlin. The previous three sessions were held on the Ukrainian-Belarusian and Polish-Belarusian borders.
This new round comes after an unsuccessful first meeting between the heads of Russian and Ukrainian diplomacy last Thursday in Turkey.
