Bolshunov suggested that Klebo called for the disqualification of the Russians under pressure
Three-time Olympic champion Alexander Bolshunov suggested why the five-time winner of the Games, Johannes Klebo, called for the removal of Russian skiers from international starts. The athlete spoke out on TikTok user ivan_dokukin.
“I thought that Klebo would soberly assess the situation. But, perhaps, they pressured him to say so, ”said Bolshunov. The Russian added that now he is even more motivated than before. He also expressed hope that he would soon be able to participate in international competitions.
On March 1, the Norwegian Ski Federation suspended Russian athletes from competitions held in the country. Klebo supported the organization’s decision and called on the International Ski Federation (FIS) to do the same.
Later, the FIS extended the ban for Russians to all competitions under the auspices of the organization. Before the end of the season, the skiers had to hold two stages of the World Cup in Norway and Sweden.
