The Foreign Minister, Cesar Landaexplained this Monday what happened to the number of Peruvians who were planning to repatriate from Ukraine after the invasion of Russiasince it was reported that some 300 compatriots were going to return, however, so far only more than 20 have arrived.
It should be remembered that Ukraine was invaded by Russia almost two weeks ago and, after the bombings in important cities, the Peruvian leader Pedro Castillo decided to support the return of Peruvians who were seeking to flee the war.
In this context, it was expected that the arrival of Peruvians would be greater, but the foreign minister explained that the number was reduced by the children of Peruvians who are Ukrainians and who must remain in their country as a matter of obligation.

“Due to the emergency laws in Ukraine, they have been limited in being able to leave (the children of Peruvians) who are between 18 and 60 years old, since they must serve the Army”Landa told, according to Canal N, at a press conference in Congress.
Likewise, the foreign minister affirmed that the Government will continue working to give guarantees to the compatriots in Russia and Ukraine, since there are 1,500 Peruvians in the first country and 400 in the second. For this, work will be done with the Peruvian Consulate in Ukraine or the Embassy in Poland.
“We will continue to repatriate people who are in a situation of need,” concluded on the subject.
