In Brazil, the Senate commission that has investigated the management of the pandemic has accused the president, Jair Bolsonaro, of “crimes against humanity” and eight other crimes. Since the start of the pandemic, 606,000 people have died from coronavirus in Brazil and it is the third most affected country in the world along with the United States and India.
The report, of nearly 1300 pages and the result of six months of research, it has been approved by seven votes versus four. The document now will be referred to the ordinary Justice, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Supreme Court and even the International Criminal Court in The Hague, which must assess whether they accept the complaints.
Specifically, the Senate asks these organizations to accuse Bolsonaro of nine crimes related to the pandemic, commission of epidemic crime resulting in death, violation of preventive health measures, quackery, prevarication, irregular use of public funds, incitement to crime, falsification of private documents, crime of responsibility and crimes against humanity.
The approval of the report implies the request for imputation of a total of 78 people, including the president Bolsonaro and of his three children, of the current Minister of Health and his predecessor, y dthe former foreign minister.
On the other hand, he demands that the Senate lawyers demand that he leave social networks for spreading false news (fake news) about the pandemic.
