“There should be no room for misunderstanding: we are going to protect every ally and every inch of NATO territory,” Allied Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said.
NATO announced this Friday that it has begun to deploy elements of its Rapid Response Force in the eastern part of the Alliance, for the first time in the context of collective defense, after the Russian attack on Ukraine.
“There should be no room for misunderstanding: we are going to protect every ally and every inch of NATO territory,” said the Allied Secretary General, Jens Stoltenbergat the end of a videoconference summit of the leaders of the Alliance, convened urgently in the face of the aggression of Moscow to your neighbor.
“We have to take this seriously and that is exactly what we are doing,” Stoltenberg explained, adding that these are US and European troops, especially France and Germany. The allied secretary general has warned that “the Kremlin’s objectives do not stop at Ukraine.”

Allied leaders have also approved a statement today in which they warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine, is a “terrible strategic error” for which his country will pay “for years” and “a strict price”, both economically and politically.
The Rapid Response Force is made up of up to 40,000 troops capable of being deployed in any scenario within five days and for a maximum of 30.
Just a month ago, the United States announced that it was putting 8,500 troops on alert to support a possible activation of NATO’s rapid-action forces in the face of Russian aggression.
This structure includes the international brigades of the Very High Availability Joint Forces, battalions of thousands of troops that, supported by air, naval and special operations forces, can be deployed urgently to deal with military crises.
