Cusco: 800 vehicles already have Camisea natural gas in the imperial city

The Camisea Consortiumoperated by Pluspetrol, reported that at least 800 cars already have natural gas in Cusco, as part of the agreement for the Promotion and Development of the Use of Liquefied Natural Gas for Vehicles (VNG-L), which seeks to promote its use in the urban transport.

Along with the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Camisea also signed the agreement for the Promotion and Development of the Use of Liquefied Natural Gas for Vehicles (VNG-L), which seeks to promote its use in urban, interprovincial, cargo and passenger transport, and mining trucks, among other uses.

“Camisea is responsible for generating more than 40% of the electricity in Peru, this resource being a source of energy for more than 100,000 cars,” he said.

As part of these agreements, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) and the Camisea Consortium signed in July 2021 the Agreement for the Promotion and Development of the Use of Liquefied Natural Gas for Vehicles (NGV-L)which promotes the use of this fuel in urban, interprovincial, cargo and passenger transportation, among other uses.

From this, Camisea will have 50 million cubic feet of natural gas per day (equivalent to more than 300,000 gallons of diesel per day) at a promotional price so that the distribution chain can liquefy it (transform natural gas from gas to liquid). and offer it at a price 50% lower than diesel.

On the other hand, it was learned that, in the north of Peru, there are already 175,000 homes that have natural gas and at a national level there are more than 1,300,000 homes in the Arequipa, Tacna, Moquegua, Piura, Cajamarca, Lambayeque, La Libertad regions. , Ancash, Lima and Ica, which already enjoy this clean and cheap energy.

The production and expansion of natural gas in Peru generated US$ 419 million in savings for residential users in the last 15 years.

“The Camisea Consortium, operated by Pluspetrol, produces 1,600 million cubic feet of natural gas daily, of which 600 million are for domestic consumption, the same amount for export, and 400 million are reinjected into the subsoil, because the infrastructure does not exist. necessary, such as ducts and pipes, to take it to the whole country,” he warned.

Camisea: environmental component

Natural gas is abundant in our country. It grants many economic benefits, but also environmental ones, for being a friendlier energy with the ecosystem.

Since 2004, when Camisea production began, more than 64 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) have been released, equivalent to the conservation of 166,000 hectares of humid forests in the Peruvian Amazon.
