The ex-president Argentinian, Mauricio Macri (2015-2019), warned this Sunday about the “flood of emigrants” that implies “a fracture in Argentine history” and assured that it is due to the “fed up of the negative cycles” that are repeated in the South American country and “the lack total future” produced by the Government of Alberto Fernandez.
“We are facing the largest exodus of Argentines in history,” Macri said in a letter published on his social networks.
In the letter, Macri indicated that “there are thousands of young people” who leave alone for other countries, “families who leave with their children”, “recently formed couples”, “graduates of all disciplines, giant entrepreneurs and all sizes”, “corporate employees who ask to expatriate”, “merchants”, “entrepreneurs”, “technicians, specialists, workers, operators”.
“This flood of emigrants is undoubtedly a fracture in Argentine history,” warned Macri, of which “traces will remain” because each person who goes to another country “is a loss of invaluable consequences that will cost many years or decades until eventually others can fill its void”.
Macri, who belongs to the main opposition coalition, Together for Change, blamed the Government of Peronist Alberto Fernández, who took office in December 2019, by assuring that what motivates emigrants is “the weariness of the negative cycles that are repeated in Argentina” and “the total lack of future produced by the current government”.
“It is indisputable that the authorities have endeavored to close any door that could bring relief, some sanity or the illusion that there is a destiny for all Argentines,” Macri wrote.
Macri closed by saying that the Argentines who remain in the country, among whom he was included, “are obliged to build an illusion of the future”, in what seemed to be a reference to the role of the opposition in the 2023 presidential elections.
On behalf of those who are leaving, “we cannot allow ourselves to feel that we live in an unviable country, resign ourselves to mediocrity, decadence, clumsiness, gluttony for power, fanaticism and let systematic lies dominate us” and “we cannot we can accept that this erratic government pushes us to despair every day”.
