The German Chancellor has assured that there are currently no “plans” to admit Ukraine to NATO. Putin, for his part, has emphasized that the possible “expansion of NATO to the east” is “dangerous”.
Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrovassured this Monday that he sees an agreement with U.S and NATO if “the proposals of Russia“in terms of security” they are listened to, although he has urged to continue negotiating.
“It seems to me that our capabilities are by no means exhausted. Of course, we should not continue indefinitely, but at this stage I propose that the talks continue and increase,” he said in a meeting with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.
Last week, however, Russian authorities rejected the US-NATO response to Moscow’s proposals on security in Europe, calling it “discourtesy”.
This same Monday, Lavrov has asked the United States to consider the Russian initiatives “as a whole” to find a way to “advance” keeping the initiatives presented in December intact.
Putin, for his part, has emphasized that the possible “expansion of NATO to the east” is “dangerous”. “I would like to hear both his analysis and his proposals on a response to the responses received from Washington and Brussels,” he clarified, according to information from the Kremlin.
Putin has also met with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who has updated him on the military maneuvers carried out at various points in the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea and the Barents Sea.

The Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholzhas assured that, currently, there are no “plans” to admit Ukraine in Western alliances like NATO.
“That is why it is somewhat peculiar to observe that the Russian government is making something that is practically not on the agenda the subject of great political problems,” said the foreign minister after meeting with the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in Kyiv.
“This is, after all, the challenge we are facing now. The fact that something that is not an issue is now becoming an issue,” he continued, according to the German news agency DPA.
Within the framework of the talks -which have lasted almost two hours, longer than had been planned-, Scholz has offered Ukraine another 150 million euros in economic aid, in addition to another 150 million already committed but Berlin still hasn’t paid. In total, Berlin has allocated more than 2 billion euros to Ukraine.
Zelensky, for his part, has defended plans for Ukraine to join NATO, stressing that it could make the country more “safe”, although he acknowledged that “unfortunately, not everything depends” on Kiev.
