Agro Rural, a unit attached to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), reported that “Pelican”, a vessel that will promote the access and use of guano from the islands in favor of medium and small farmers, is in a 40% advance phase in its construction.

Through a press release, the institution reported that the afloat construction of this personnel transport and logistical support vessel was entrusted to the Empresa Servicios Industriales de la Marina SA (SIMA-PERU).

Rogelio Huamaní, executive director of Agro Rural, explained that in the next few days they will make a visit to verify the progress made, to the extent that Midagri recognizes the importance of the boat for the transit of this effective fertilizer.

“For us it is important to implement a good logistics team that allows us to reach all our small farmers, who will ultimately be the ones to benefit from the delivery of this maritime transport,” he remarked.

Pelicano will have personnel transport capacity and logistical support, in addition to a naval steel hull. It will also have a conventional propulsion system with two engines and two fixed-pitch propellers, enabled and equipped to provide support services in the guano islands off our coast.

Pelican, the lord of the sea

Pelicano will enjoy state-of-the-art communication and navigation aid equipment, safety equipment for human life at sea, preventing contamination of the aquatic environment.

Not content with this, he will receive firefighting equipment in accordance with the provisions of the General Directorate of Harbor Masters and Coastguards.

It should be noted that the completion of this maritime vessel will ensure the continuity of guano transport operations from the islands for a long period of time and will provide greater safety to the crew.

The data

  • Pelícano is being built within the framework of the Second Agrarian Reform, implemented by the Government to sustainably increase the income and quality of life of family farming producers, through access to guano from the islands, which is used to improve their crops.
